Retro-fitting your existing fluorescent light tube holders with LED tubes requires an adjustment to them. LED tubes don’t need ballast or starters and they have to be removed/bypassed, work only an electrician should attempt.
Should you replace the whole unit instead? Consider the following:
– A new unit is considerably more expensive than replacement tubes
– The adjustment to your fittings should only take around 10 minutes each
– Replacing your fittings with new units takes an electrician’s time, too
– The adjustment is a one off, should an LED tube not work, it can simply be replaced time after time. A unit is sealed and has to be replaced as a whole.
When you compare the cost, leaving aside the electrician’s time you will need anyway, retro-fitting can be very attractive and cost-effective.
